A Brie Grows in Brooklyn

"Mabel's not crazy... she's unusual."

“If you have beautiful things to use, it changes the kind of person you are.” —Betty Woodman
This weekend, I found so time to further Brie-ify my new apartment, which meant that I installed my Tord Boontje garland light on a random wall. I think my 22-year-old self was much more enamored by it than my 29-year-old self, but I have to say, lit up in low light, it looks pretty gorgeous.
If you too want to make your apartment look like a Victorian fairy painting, you can buy the garland at the MoMA store.

Only our world is in Brooklyn, and our deportation is less traumatic, more of a soap bubble popping than a demon losing its shit. It’s not that we’re not still in love, it’s just that we’ve been confronted with some difficult realities—Caleb is moving, which is stressful for anyone, and I ran out of my medication for two days—that have tested our commitment to one another.

We’ve passed the test, but we’ve learned some new things about each other on the way.
